It is a commonly stated fact that a third of all people will contract cancer at some stage in their life and I’m sure I have no need to tell you just how serious a problem this is. There are many complementary treatments that can help a person cope with cancer and hypnosis has recently come to the forefront as one of the very best. In fact many hospitals and hospices now employ hypnotherapists for this very reason.

When used for therapeutic or medical means hypnosis is commonly referred to as hypnotherapy. I mention this because I will be using both terms throughout the course of this article.

Any well trained and honest hypnotherapist will tell you that hypnosis isn’t a cure for cancer. However hypnotherapy can be used to help a patient in many of the areas of concern that may arise for them. There are four many ways that hypnotherapy may help a cancer patient.

As you may be aware the hypnotic handshake induction was created by Milton Erickson, perhaps the greatest hypnotist to ever live. As the name suggests, in this induction you will need to be shaking hands with your subject to induce a light hypnotic trance. I have always found it a little strange that while many people are not willing to try hetero hypnosis (where one person hypnotizes another) while they are, at the same time, eager to learn self hypnosis. Embedded commands work by planting a thought or idea into the mind of the person you are trying to seduce. So, for example, if I was talking to an attractive woman that I had met via strange circumstances I might  say to her “Isn’t it funny we should be together like this?”. It’s a perfectly natural piece of conversation but within the question you will notice the command “we should be together”. This places the idea in the woman’s mind that it would be a good idea for us to get together.
